A STANDALONE ROYAL ROMANCE
When I first applied for the job I thought it would be like all the others: working as a nanny for an aristocratic family.
Then I got the job and found out how wrong I was.
Now I’m the new nanny for two adorable little girls who happen to be princesses.
Their father is the widowed King of Denmark.
And my new home? The royal palace in Copenhagen.
Adjusting to my new life isn't easy but the hardest part hasn’t been the girls who still grieve over the loss of their mother.
It’s their father.
Cold, mysterious and moody, with an icy stare that seems to penetrate your soul, King Aksel may have hired me to take care of his daughters but he wants as little to do with me as possible.
Yet the longer I share these palace walls with this man, the more that I’m drawn to him. His chiseled face and sexual swagger are only part of the package. It’s in the long, intense glances at the dinner table, the way we’ll brush up against each other in the halls, the rare glimpses of the man deep inside, like the sun passing through clouds.
But no matter how I feel about him, we can never be together.
You think it's bad enough being in love with your boss?
Try falling in love with a king.
A Standalone Royal Romance Spin-Off
A Nordic King by Karina Halle
Publication Date: September 21, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance
I’ve been anticipating this story all summer and it’s finally here!
After reading The Swedish Prince and The Wild Heir, I was chomping at the bit to get my hands on A Nordic King! I’m happy to report that Aksel and Aurora’s story totally lived up to my expectations. Forbidden romance at it’s best, A Nordic King brings together all the yumminess of a sexy brooding king with the fiery, beautiful, hands off, nanny. Aksel is widowed, raising his two daughters alone, Aurora is the nanny he doesn’t want but can’t stop thinking about.
When I read a story, I always come into it with some sort of expectation, as I’m sure you do as well. Having seen moments of Aksel in Halle’s two previously mentioned titles, I came to expect quite a bit. Fair or not, the lead up to this book was big for me. I’m always a sucker for brooding, hard, grumpy, for lack of a better word “mean” male leads. Of course this always needs to be in combination with with a heroine that doesn’t put up with their b.s., is confident, strong, sassy, you know the type. There are a handful of authors I’ve read that always do this combo justice, Halle, of course, being one of them. Her characters are always passionate, always independent, always strong-willed, and always magic on the pages. I’ve come to expect a certain level of exceptional writing, thankfully I’m never disappointed.
A Nordic King, had everything I could ever imagined I wanted, and then some. The story may be about a king, a nanny, and his precious little girls, but it’s also about finding that person that’s right for you, whomever that may be. It’s also about the strength we possess to overcome any difficulty life may throw at us, rising to the challenge of personal growth, self reflection, healing, and allowing ourselves to move on. Whether you’re a royal or not, life is hard, there are many obstacles. It’s how we persevere and the person we end up being that matters.
The dynamic between Aksel and Aurora was some of the best! The push and pull, the desire to give in knowing you really shouldn’t. Yes there’s angst. It’s well deserved angst yet doesn’t overshadow or bring the story down. It’s just there, it’s a part of the lives of this particular family. They lost not only a queen but a wife and mother. Aurora is a badly needed breath of fresh air. She literally breathes life into the castle and it’s beautiful to read. Halle did a great job of not making this just a romance, it’s also about two little girls who miss their mother. Clara and Freja are adorable, their antics bring the levity that’s needed in what otherwise might be a more angsty story.
I almost forgot to mention all the intrigue! There are sinister things afoot in the castle. There are secrets and even some lies. All of which added another dynamic to the story. The chemistry between Aksel and Aurora is off the charts. There are many steamy moments and many moments of laughter. All in all this is one of my favorite Karina Halle books. I cannot wait to read the next adventure she plans to take us on.
