Delilah Gordon has a secret.

She’s been in love with her best friend and the boy next door, Fox Nelson, since she was six years old.

And while most of her friends and family know about her unrequited crush, the one person who remains oblivious is Fox himself. To Delilah, it’s better this way. She’d rather pretend that they’re just friends, even though her feelings for the moody, rugged mountain man are anything but tame.

Fox Nelson has a secret too. As a wildland firefighter or “hot shot,” Fox parachutes into danger every day he’s on the job, risking all to fight wildfires that threaten ranches, forests and thousands of lives. But while Fox’s job is only for the brave, inside he feels anything but. The more he grapples with his raging demons, the more he realizes Delilah is the only one who can put out the flames.

As the two friends grow closer – and more intimate – than ever before, the more complicated their relationship becomes.

And Delilah has one more secret to reveal.

A secret that will change both their lives… forever.

I. Loved. This. Story.

Hot Shot is the final in the North Ridge series.  By far my favorite.  Highly emotional, I was so moved by Fox’s story.  He’s a hunky, sexy, wildland firefighter, who is emotionally troubled.  Delilah is his best friend.  This friends to lovers romance will resonate with anyone who has suffered loss at a young age and struggles in the aftermath.

Ms. Halle writes really well.  I think I say that with every review.  It’s true though and can’t be iterated enough.  Reading her books is like meeting up with an old friend.  The foundation is solid, the stories share are always filled with laughter, love, tears, everything is so familiar and comforting.  I can’t say enough about her books and the new journeys she takes us on.

Hot Shot is a complicated story.  Fox and Delilah have a tough road ahead.  Their friendship is strong, always being there for each other throughout their lives.  Delilah knows she’s in love with Fox.  Fox seems to be oblivious. He’s gone a lot fighting wildfires.  He spends a lot of his time stuck in the past.  His mother’s death left a deep scar.

The overarching theme in this series is family, which absolutely comes through in Hot Shot.  It’s about learning to forgive ourselves.  Fighting for a better day.  Allowing friends and family to truly support us.  Letting go of the past, while acknowledging that it’s a part of who we are.  It’s about loving ourselves first before we can give that love to others.  Hot Shot was a great way to end this series.
