Avery Bardot steps off the plane in Rome, looking for a fresh start. She’s left behind a soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston and plans to spend the summer with her best friend Daisy, licking her wounds—and perhaps a gelato or two. But when her American-expat friend throws her a welcome party on her first night, Avery’s thrown for a loop when she sees a man she never thought she’d see again: Italian architect Marcello Bianchi.
Marcello was the man—the one who got away. And now her past is colliding with her present, a present where she should be mourning the loss of her marriage and—hey, that fettuccine is delicious! And so is Marcello…
Slipping easily into the good life of summertime in Rome, Avery spends her days exploring a city that makes art historians swoon, and her nights swooning over her unexpected what was old is new again romance. It’s heady, it’s fevered, it’s wanton, and it’s crazy. But could this really be her new life? Or is it just a temporary reprieve before returning to the land of twin-set cardigans and crustless sandwiches?
A celebration of great friendship, passionate romance, and wonderful food, Roman Crazy is a lighthearted story of second chances and living life to the fullest.
Sassy, sweet, and sexy, Roman Crazy is a must read. Alice Clayton and Nina Bocci dished up some seriously delicious romantic yumminess and I’m not only talking about the hunky Italian, Marcello. For me the yumminess was in the Italian scenery, food, art, culture and yes Marcello too. I found myself so immmersed in the culture, I just wanted to pack my bags and go back! I think Italy has been hands down my most favorite country to visit.
Alice Clayton is one of my favorite authors. So when I saw this colab between her and Nina I was definitely intrigued. They did not disppoint. Their writing is simply put, fun. I ate up every moment of Avery and Marcello together. I loved Avery’s perspective, her inner dialogue to Marcello’s Italian…being lol for lack of a better word is perfect. She had me smiling many times.
I also loved that Alice and Nina didn’t make this an easy story for Avery. There was just enough drama without going overboard. Avery was not perfect, neither was Marcello, but you found yourself rooting for them the entire way. Avery needed to self discover and Italy was the perfect place to do that. I loved seeing Rome through her eyes. It gave me that itch to travel. And the food…oh my word….the food. I’m always appreciative of strong female characters. Women who know what they want, what they need, and they stand up for themselves. Avery is all of those things. She’s able to confront her ex maturely. She accepts responsibilities for her actions, apologizing when she needed to. Shes not caught up in material things, nor does she over indulge.
Marcello is just delicious in his own right. He’s as handsome as he is openly emotional. I love that his feelings are always right out in the open. He’s so obviously in love, yet scared, and I totally understood him. He comes across as someone who when he invests, he does it 110%. Passioniate is probably the best word for Marcello. I just loved him so much.
Avery’s best friend, Daisy kept this story light. She was the voice of reason and the comic relief. She had me cracking up several times. I’m seriously hoping we get her story next.
Overall, I thought Roman Crazy was pretty great. Can’t wait to see what this writing duo has in store for us next!
