My marriage seemed perfect from the outside looking in.
People envied me. They wanted my life, wanted to be me.
Mrs Alejandra Gambino.
Wife of Dino Gambino. Daughter of Eduardo Castillo.
Respected. Loved. Mob royalty.
They had no idea of the horrors that lurked behind closed doors.
They didn't know I was at the lowest point a person could reach.
Enter Julius Carter.
Aloof, handsome, blue-eyed Julius Carter.
He saved me.
I screwed him over.
Now everybody was after me. My life was forfeit.
It was only a matter of time. I was a dead woman walking.
The question was, who would get to me first?
Belle Aurora is one of my favorite authors. I’ve read just about all her books and I look forward to reading many more. Dirty had me bouncing out of my chair and yelling at my laptop, I was so excited to read this story. Raw the first book in this series, had us all gasping at the ending and I couldn’t wait for more. I was expecting nothing less with Dirty.
This is where I find myself pausing…..Dirty just didn’t work in the way I think the author intended. The plot is still amazing. Some old favorites pop up from the Friend-Zoned series, which was exciting. While I love Julius, I didn’t love his story. There were elements that appealed to me for sure, including his role in Alejandra’s (Ana) life. I was all in for the first part of the book. It wasn’t until their relationship started to change that I felt a shift. I was simply no longer feeling it. The fast paced, adrenaline pumping thriller was fizzling out.
Part of the issue I had was the immediate, dramatic shift in Julius and Ana’s relationship. In the span of maybe a day they went from captor/captive to I love you and want you forever and ever. Only I didn’t shift with them. I was still on a adrenaline high from the crazy start to their relationship. Cause the storyline is still where it’s happening for me. I just didn’t connect with Julius and Ana as a couple. Not then and unfortunately not ever.
Even more puzzling was that there was a completely different story happening in this book. This story had a different set of characters which definitely drew my attention away from Julius and Ana. It made it harder to stay with their relationship. Then there was another major shift that happened which didn’t have the same effect as the Raw ending did. I suspect the author was attempting to go with an “omg did that just happen” moment. Which worked, just not in the way I think she intended. The reader is just as blindsided and honestly I didn’t feel like it was ever fully resolved.
I can’t even talk about Ling. Ling is working with Julius. Her character was confusing and I was left not really caring. She’s still too unknown to get behind her actions.
Actually confusing is a good word to describe Dirty.
This will not deter me from reading the next book. Not by a long shot. I’m invested in this author. I’m invested in these characters, all of them. I want to know where it’s going, how it will all end for them.
