Review

This was my first Ella Fox book.  I’ve heard many good things about Ella and I was excited to finally have the excuse to stop what I was doing and pick up one of her books.  I also wasn’t disappointed.

Catch My Fall was a really good story.  The story introduces us to Mia on her first day at college.  There is an immediate set up of her family dynamics.  She has the father from hell and a wonderful mother and a great step-dad whom she obviously loves.  You know from the tone that there is more than meets the eye though.  What I mean is that this story isn’t just about a young girl with daddy issues.  No, unfortunately it goes much deeper.

Our hero is Tristan.  He’s a twin, he’s smart, he’s sexy, he’s sweet.  He’s actually very very sweet.  I totally pictured him as this adorable little boy in the book.  No he’s not young but I just got this ‘little boy at heart’ vibe off of him.  He’s got a really sweet personality.  He obviously likes Mia and in a really cute turn of events they end up nicknaming each other Stan and Mimi which I found to be endearing.

I was rooting for them to be a couple.  I wanted them together they seemed perfect for each other and what each other needed at this point in their lives.  It’s like the perfect storm.  Tristan aka Stan comes from a background we’re not privy too right away, which has caused him to have some character flaws.  He’s promiscuous and a commitment phobe.  I usually don’t like heroes with these qualities but in Catch My Fall it’s not exploited.  Well not really.  It’s used to show us his humility and his growth.

Mia is suffering and recovering and I can’t share more than that.  But I have to say that I found her character to be endearing as well.  She owns what’s happened to her and although she struggles with it and suffers from anxiety she’s still incredibly strong and willing to put herself ‘out there’ and try.  She doesn’t hide even though she wants to.  Anyone who suffers from anxiety no matter the reason, can attest to how difficult that is.  We have to give ourselves pep talks, we have to have patience with ourselves, we have to swallow our fears and try.  It’s not easy.

I also found myself really liking the side characters.  Mia’s roommate, Darby, is also friends with Tristan and his twin brother Trace.  I appreciated Darby’s ability to be there for Mia aka Mimi without pressure.  She’s extremely close to the twin brothers and her banter with them was fun.  I felt that Ella set up the next book quite nice by giving us snapshots of Darby and Trace together.

There were a few things that caught my eye.  I’m a picky/fussy reader.  I see editing errors.  I see grammar issues.  I wish I could turn it off but I can’t.  It’s a blessing and a hindrance.   With that said when I receive an ARC I tend to over look things with the hopes they will be fixed in the final copy. All in all I enjoyed this story and would definitely read more from Ella Fox.
