Armed with two years' worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin. Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn't let her die, but he also couldn't risk being identified at the scene—so, he ran. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub. Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him. And how dangerous it is to have her around. Chasing her off would be the smart move.

Maybe it's because he saved her life, or maybe it's because he's completely different from everything she's left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.

And River isn't the kind of guy she'd want to catch.

Adrienne's Review v2

Rich in family history and cherished ideals, Chasing River is about two people from different worlds, different sides of the law falling for each other and they’re journey to happily ever after.

I think of all the books in the series, this may be my favorite.  I crave stories that are rich in culture, family values, and that struggle to find who you really are in order to mature into whom you’re meant to be.  For me Chasing River does that.  Set in present day Ireland, K.A. Tucker does a fantastic job of not only bringing the beauty of Ireland into the story, but also cultivating the history in such a way that it makes for an enjoyable read.  Ireland as a whole has not had it easy.  There have been decades upon decades of political and religious upheaval.  I know, I lived in England in the late 70’s and as a small child I distinctly remember hearing the news about IRA.  I think my own experiences just added more to the story.

Amber may be on a trip to experience the world, but really she’s soul searching.  I thought Ms. Tucker did a good job of developing Amber’s character as she was before the incident in Ireland to who she becomes after.  She was forced to understand a culture that was totally foreign to her where right, wrong, and injustice play a heavy theme.  River was a pretty great hero.  Loved his struggle in the story.  Staunch family history, deep rooted values and beliefs versus the truth that is right and wrong, protecting those you love and those you are falling in love with, kept River in a pretty difficult situation.  I felt like his character had the more challenging role in Chasing River.

K.A. Tucker’s writing is impeccable.  It’s matured so much from the first book I read, Ten Tiny Breaths.  She writes with eloquence and determination.  I was captivated from the beginning and found myself carrying my kindle around with me so I could read every chance I got.  Her research and knowledge of Irish culture, history and landscape was apparent, her personal experience obvious.

My one and only critique is the ending.  As I was nearing the end I couldn’t help but wonder if I would be getting a second book, which I know is not the authors style.  I couldn’t imagine her wrapping it up in the pages that were left.  So much time went into telling Amber and River’s story, I felt like they deserved a very well thought out ending.  It was a tad disappointing and abrupt.

I’m curious to see where Ivy’s story goes in Surviving Ice.  Ivy may be the most interesting female heroine yet!

About K.A. Tucker

Born in small-town Ontario, Kathleen published her first book at the age of six with the help of her elementary school librarian and a box of crayons. She is a voracious reader and the farthest thing from a genre-snob, loving everything from High Fantasy to Chick Lit. Kathleen currently resides in a quaint small town outside of Toronto with her husband, two beautiful girls, and an exhausting brood of four-legged creatures.
