A story of heart-stopping, toe-curling passion by the beloved bestselling author of Hard to Love, Resisting Her, and The Impact of You.
Straight-laced and well-mannered southerner Emmy Clarke is out of her depth in New York City’s fashion world, but when she lands a job as an assistant at a modeling agency it seems like the perfect mix of business and pleasure. Working under the notoriously tyrannical Fiona Stone is a nightmare, but there’s one distinct perk: ogling the ridiculously hot male models who parade through the office—particularly rising star Ben Shaw.
Ben is everything Emmy’s not: exquisitely gorgeous, highly paid, and well-traveled. He’s also got more issues than Vogue. Emmy looks after Ben on photo shoots, but she refuses to become another one of his lusting groupies. Ben finds Emmy’s refreshingly real attitude to be surprisingly attractive.
Against a backdrop of the most fashionable cities in the world, casual flirting turns into an illicit affair, but when Ben’s twisted past is revealed, and the bitter Fiona catches wind of their relationship, their careers and hearts are threatened.
Ladies, you’re definitely gonna want to keep your significant other close while reading this steamy little book.
WOW it was HOT!
All right so we have Emmy, a small town girl from Tennessee and Ben an uber hot male model. Emmy has landed a job at a modeling agency working for the main resident bitch, Fiona. Ben is a rising star in the modeling world and Fiona has him in her clutches. Emmy and Ben meet and well…to say sparks fly is an understatement. You can tell immediately that these two are going to burn up the sheets. She sweet and innocent, he’s worldly, confident, and aggressive.
Work takes all three of them to Paris for 3 months. This is where things get really interesting. Ben obviously has eyes for her but Emmy’s concerned about his relationship with Fiona and just how deep those two go. One thing leads to another and Ben and Emmy start sexting.
OH EM GEE do they sext and do it well. They didn’t even have to be in the room together and I was ready for them to do the dirty deed! Ben certainly has a way with words. And who would have thought that sweet innocent Emmy had a flirty wild side?
When these two finally hook up, I kid you not my kindle steamed up!!! Ben has a filthy, dirty mouth and I personally loved every minute of it! Of course Emmy got to reap the rewards LOL.
I really liked the setting of this story. I like that it was a modeling agency, I liked that the model was male. I liked that Emmy wasn’t worldly but she also wasn’t naive. She had a pretty good head on her shoulders. For a good portion of the book I thought Ben was older. He just comes across as someone who’s been there done that and has years on Emmy. When in reality they’re both in their early 20’s. That really surprised me. Fiona on the other hand was much younger than I expected at 38. Again I thought she was much older, almost motherly to Ben.
It’s very obvious that Fiona and Ben’s relationship is complicated. Emmy tries to ignore all the warning signs but it’s difficult when she’s in the thick of it. Ben tries to keep Fiona at bay and doesn’t want to rock the boat, or the hand that feeds him. So they choose to keep their relationship secret. I was confused by this for a few reasons. One, there’s a scene in the book where Ben comes out of the shower and Fiona is in his hotel room un-announced. Implying she has a key. However, for the rest of the story she never makes an un-announced appearance. We’re talking over the course of 2 months, Ben and Emmy aren’t caught by her. Two, Ben and Emmy don’t do a good job of hiding said relationship, they go on dates and make appearances at functions together. He even takes Emmy away over night and Fiona furnishes the ticket. I felt like Fiona’s character could have been way more of a nuisance and created way more drama for the story.
When all things finally come to a head, I can’t say I was surprised. You definitely get a feel for where the story is going. I was however, disappointed at Emmy’s response and then her failure to not fall back into Ben’s arms. I didn’t feel like Ben had done enough to prove his feelings for Emmy. With that said it’s all obviously a lead up to the 2nd book.
Yes my friends the story ends with a cliffhanger. Not an open mouth OMG did that just happen cliff but a cliff nonetheless.
This was my first Kendall Ryan story. It won’t be my last. I’m anxious to see what’s next for Ben and Emmy.
