When Hayley makes a resolution to take back the control over her life, and declare their relationship R.I.P, it’s all good in theory…

That is until Daniel decides to prove her wrong and get her back.

Together, Hayley and Daniel seem to have it all. But can love ever be enough when two strong personalities collide and while reality takes the lead?

Faced with more obstacles than she could have ever bargain for when it comes to Daniel, struggling to keep her own identity while sharing a life with her man. Buds of doubt start rooting in Hayley’s confidence, making her rethink her decision.

And just when it seems that they might make it together after all, life happens. Bringing a threat that neither Hayley nor Daniel could ever anticipate, a threat that could break them apart forever . . .

Adrienne's Review

I absolutely love to see growth in an author’s writing.  I definitely thought Inner Core by Sigal Ehrlich had a different feel than Layers (my review can be found here).

Inner Core deals mainly with the ups and downs and insecurities that begrudge new relationships.  Throw in a crazy, obsessive, sexy boyfriend and you get nothing short of a tornado.  I thought Daniel’s character felt more mature in this book than in book one.  Even though there were many snarky moments he seemed to fit the mold of mega millionaire, I own a company, and I’m desperately in love with Haley, sex on a stick man.  His character made more sense to me.  He seemed genuine when it called for it and over the top psycho lover boy the rest of the time.

I thought Hayley’s concerns about their relationship were absolutely justified.  There are glaring issues that needed to be addressed and she was justified, I thought, in her reactions to them.  I really felt more connected to her in this story.  I understand her feelings whether it was total devotion and undying love or her insecurities and concerns.  I didn’t fully understand why Hayley has these preconceived notions of relationships and marriage though.  I understood the one event that happened which caused her to shy away from being hurt by men, which led to her having numerous one night stands.  However, Hayley says she doesn’t believe in the institution of marriage yet doesn’t explain why.  Her parents are happily married so I just didn’t understand why she made that statement.

Ian plays a very prominent role and while I love Ian, I really do.  I could have done with less of him and more delving into the trust issues between Hayley and Daniel.  I felt like that part was skimmed over when it could have been developed into a more integral part of their story.  I also didn’t understand throwing Brad in the mix.  It was such a fleeting moment that it seemed unnecessary.  With that said what happened with Tasha?  She’s such a great character and she didn’t play much of a role in this story.  Unlike Ian who seemed to have a more prominent role.  I thought maybe we were being set up for follow up books however the epilogue sort of nixes that.  So for me it was a bit confusing and could have used some tightening of the plot.

I really liked the epilogue.  In fact I loved the final moments in Daniel’s head.  I wish the author had given us more of those.  I think it would have helped to connect with him more.

All in all I liked Inner Core a lot.  I would definitely read more books by Sigal Ehrlich in the future.

  1. Great review it sounds like this series is getting even better and character growth is important in a genre like this I find so it sounds like a solid sequel!
