It’s been two months since Perry Palomino and Dex Foray’s relationship reached a new turning point, two months since Perry started a new life in Seattle, and two months since their Experiment in Terror show took on a new partner, ex-Wine Babe Rebecca Sims, and found a new level of success. But whenever there is light in their lives, the madness still has a way of coming back in.
When the team is sent back to the stormy Oregon coast to investigate a haunted school, Perry wants to use the opportunity to reconnect with her family and reintroduce Dex into their lives. Only Perry’s not the only one who’s reaching out – her grandmother Pippa has started appearing to her with disturbing warnings and Perry’s presence at the school has ignited a chilling new wave of supernatural phenomenon. Once used a century ago as a sanatorium to house children dying of tuberculosis, the school’s past residents are slowly coming back to life and with one thing on their mind. They want someone to play with, someone to join them. Forever.
Even when dead, some children get whatever they want.
And they want Perry.
Karina Halle knocks another one out of the park with Ashes to Ashes the 6th installment in the Experiment in Terror series. Karina consistently surprises me with her chilling stories and epic plots twists and turns.
This is yet another continuation in the Experiment in Terror internet show. Only without Maximus Jacobs. This time they’re 3rd partner is Rebecca. Dex and Perry both love Rebecca they all get along great so there should be no issues right? Only nothing ever goes as planned with Dex and Perry.
Ashes to Ashes takes us back to Oregon. Back to where it all began for the duo. During this trip we’re taken back to several places where Dex and Perry “firsts” occurred. Like Perry’s uncles house and the dinner where Perry first sees the Crazy Clown Lady. Dex is true to form in the majority of book, still funny and most definitely still an ass. Perry, for me seems more mature. I think all the things that have happened to her since meeting Dex have really changed her. We see definite growth and I liked it a lot. I was ready for Perry to drop some of her old habits ie self loathing. She’s beginning to see herself and strong, sexy, wanted. I think the majority of this comes from being around people who accept her for who she is and love her unconditionally. Something she never really got at home.
The scare factor is still definitely there. We’re talking dead kids. Yea that’s never fun no matter where they are! The story is chilling and gripping and I was constantly waiting for some suspect to pop up and scare the hell out of me. But the story is a sad one too and your heart strings will tug at the realization of what happened there.
But the kicker to this book? The thing that made my hair stand on end, had me crying out “NO!”
It’s an OMG NO EFFING WAY moment and not something you’ll forget.
I know there is supposedly only one book left and I’m truly worried about where it’s going. I trust Karina Halle to do Dex and Perry justice though and I’ll waiting slightly impatiently.
